Koizumi Akira, a son of a popular songstress, travels to a small-town cinema in far-off Kochi Prefecture to watch the last movie before the theater shuts its doors forever. The movie takes place in the same village but during the Showa 30s (1950s), in the years following the war. The story is about a young soldier who washes ashore on the beach one day. When he woke up he found that he lost his memory about himself before that day. And so he is "adopted" by the family who owns the village cinema and given the name Shimanto Taro. Although his past remains a mystery, Taro becomes good friends with many of the villagers, discovering his love for movies and falling in love with a feisty young girl.
10 years after he first wash ashore is when all the drama starts. Taro starts to remember his past bit by bit. He met a student (played by Tacchon) on a journey due to his heartbreak. Because of Taro he learn about movies and later he became a script writer and producer. The movie that Akira watched is a movie by the student. Taro also met his wife who thought that he had died in the war. His wife came to the town without knowing that he was there. Upon seeing him, she began to have the hope of him regaining his memories and going home with her. However after finding out about how much Taro loves Suzu, she left the town. However after an accident Taro regain his memories and pretend not to remember anything about the town that he stayed for 10 years. Due to his daughter back in Tokyo, he did it and stayed with his own old family.
Akira, after watching the movie about his own grandfather changed his lifestyle and began working with a movie production company.
This is a nice and touching drama. I nearly cried at the end of the series. It's worth the watch.
