Part Five

My brother and I used to hang out together a lot back when I was in elementary school and junior high. That is how I got to know a very close friend of his, Akano Sugimoto. He has been my brother’s best friend ever since they were in junior high. But I seldom see him nowadays.

Mikomi was turning a corner when she bumps into something or rather someone. The two who bumped into each other took a while to regain their balance and turn to each other. They both smile but are slightly surprised to see each other.

Mikomi: Akano-nii. It’s been a while.

Akano: Yes it has. I haven’t seen you since you got into high school. One year plus went by just like that. So how have you been?

Mikomi: The usual. Nothing much is happening to me. How about you, Akano-nii?

Akano: I’m working as a floor manager at a small family restaurant. It’s not too bad. How’s life in high school? Must be fun right? Do you have a boyfriend?

Mikomi: High school life is okay I guess. And I don’t have a boyfriend.

Akano: Why not?

Mikomi: A lot of factors. But don’t worry I plan to get to university so I need to concentrate on my studies and not other things. I’m fine with my life right now.

Akano: Surely that’s not true. You’re eyes are telling me otherwise.

Mikomi: You are always so sharp, Akano-nii. But I don’t want to talk about this right now.

Akano: I won’t force you to tell me if you don’t want to. But if you need a listening ear, I will be there. Just send me a mail and I will do my best to help you.

Mikomi: Thank you, Akano-nii. Although we have not talked to each other for a year plus, you are the same as before. Always so caring and understanding towards me. Thank you. I better head on home now.

Akano: Sure. Walk safely. And remember what I said.

Mikomi bows her head in respect before hurrying off.
